Obituary of Dale Dean Sandlin
Dale Dean "Pappy" Sandlin, 74, of Gas, Kansas passed away June 18th, 2017 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
Dale was born December 19, 1942 in Port St. Joe, Florida to Dayton Dale and Francis Louise (Dean) Sandlin. He lived in 7 different states and 32 different towns before settling in Iola in 1952. He graduated from Iola High School in 1961 and attended Iola Junior College for two years. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1964 to 1968. He married Virginia Lee Gee in 1965 in Brownsville, Texas. Following his service in the Coast Guard he worked for his father at D.D. Sandlin Drilling Company. He worked for 35 years for the City of Iola as a welder and water treatment plant operator, retiring in 2005.
He seldom missed any of his granddaughters' sporting events, he loved dancing, hunting, gardening, camping, visiting the beach and enjoying seafood, and spending time with his family and friends. He also loved watching KU basketball. He will always be remembered for his fun loving nature and the good times had with his many friends.
He is survived by his son, Dale Louis Sandlin and wife Sherry of Iola, daughters Virginia Wools and husband Tim of Iola, and Gina Totman of Gas, sister Kay Croghan and husband Jack of Iola, grandchildren Ashley Luttrell and husband Chance of Colorado, Shane Sandlin of Iola, Kayla Westerman and husband Matt of Piqua, Kansas, Kelci Sigg and husband John of Iola, Karley Wools of Iola, Keshia Thompson and husband Kenneth of Iola, Kyler Umbarger and wife Katherine of Chanute, thirteen great grandchildren with one on the way, and many friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia in 2013, and by his parents.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola. Private family inurnment with military honors will take place at a later date in Highland Cemetery at Iola.
