Larry J. Stevenson, age 82, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Kansas. He was born on October 27, 1934, in Franklin County, Kansas, the son of Floyd and Dorothy (Spencer) Stevenson. He graduated from Garnett High School in 1952. Larry married Barbara Cowdin and this union was blessed with two sons. They later divorced. He then married Shirley Amy. She passed away in 2006. Larry worked at numerous places, including working at Farris Funeral Home, Coca-Cola, the Railroad, managed a dealership body shop in California, and owned his own shop, Stevenson's Body Shop, for years in Ottawa. Larry drove a school bus for many years before retiring from O'Reilly Auto Parts in Ottawa, as a driver, at the age of 79. He loved music and enjoyed singing. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and golfing. Larry was offered a position on the Cleveland Indians farm club but did not accept. Larry was an encourager, very generous with his positive words, especially with his grandchildren. He never met a stranger and was known for his story telling. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his son, David Stevenson in 1993; sisters, Leeta Sweet, Joy Stevenson, Helen Smith, Mona Hedges, and Judy Miller. He is survived by his companion, Betty Potter, of the home; his son, Mark Stevenson and wife Laurie of Garnett, Kansas; brother, Floyd "Don" Stevenson of Texas; stepchildren, Kathy Parker, Tim Parker, and Darrel Gourley; six grandchildren, Amy McWilliams, DeAmbra Jernigan, Dusty Parker, Jacob Stevenson, Matt Stevenson, and Michaela Stevenson; and ten great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas.
