Obituary of Jackie L Steward

Jackie L. "Jack" Steward, 81 of Iola passed away Monday, May 15, 2017 at his home. Jack was born January 4, 1936 in Iola to Charles and Suzan (Page) Steward. He graduated from Iola High School in 1954 and later enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from 1958 to 1960. He married Bonita "Bonnie" Martin on December 10, 1960 in Iola. Together they made their home in Iola, where he will long be remembered for his beautiful outdoor Christmas display. As a boy he worked for the Iola Register, later working for Columbia Metal and several filling stations around Iola. He and his wife owned and operated Bonnie's Corner Café. He was the last man standing at the IMP boat plant. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of the home; children Tracy Steward of Iola, Deborah Sager of Iola, Jacqueline Woolery of Olathe, Teresa Weatherbie and husband Gene of rural LaHarpe, and Nancy Maley and husband Dale of rural Moran; grandsons Jacob, Bobby, Ethan, and Nathan Maley, Cassidy and Dalton Weatherbie, Alec and Courtland Sager, and Brock Woolery; three great grandchildren; a sister Suzie Clark and husband Porter of Independence, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Daramis and Leah, brothers Wendell, Larry and Don, and a son in law, James Sager. Services for Jack will be Friday, May 19, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Iola. The funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. with visitation beginning an hour prior. Burial will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
