Obituary of Donald Lee Burche

Donald Lee Burche, 88, of Chanute passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 at Country Place Senior Living in Chanute.

 

He was born May 21, 1928 in Wichita, KS during the middle of the Great Depression and graduated from Moran High School in Moran, KS in 1946. Don joined the US Army Air Corps in 1946 and trained in radio teletype. He served in the Army Air Corps which later became the Far East Airforce until 1949. Don was recalled during the Korean War and served again in a variety of stateside duty stations.

 

Upon discharge Don returned to Moran, KS where he married Betty Lou Arn, fathered and raised four children and worked in the telephone industry. Over the years Don worked for 5 telephone companies as they were each purchased by larger companies. He started as an installer repairman and retired in Branson, Missouri as a state switching superintendent for CONTEL.

 

Don's wife is deceased and he is survived by his four children, Douglas L. Burche, Dee A. Williams, Daniel J Burche, and David W. Burche who live in Kansas, Missouri, and Rhode Island; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and his older brother, William.

 

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 6 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, 344 N. Cedar, Moran, Kansas. The family will greet friends following the memorial service a the Moran American Legion. Don will be buried with his beloved wife of 59 years. Inurnment with military honors will take place at the Ft. Scott National Cemetery at 1:30 P.M. on Monday, May 8. Contributions in memory of Don are suggested to the Harry Hynes Hospice.
