Obituary of Eugene Wolfe
Eugene Glen Wolfe, age 90, of Savonburg, Kansas passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 at his home.
Gene was born November 7, 1926 at Anthony, Kansas. He was the seventh of nine children born to George Washington and Elsie (Fastuacht) Wolfe. He grew up in the Aurora, Missouri area, graduating from Aurora High School in 1945. His family moved to the family farm near Savonburg in 1950.
Gene met Joan Johnson at Elsmore, Kansas and they were united in marriage at Iola, Kansas on March 21, 1953. This union was blessed with two sons.
Gene served in the US Army from June to December of 1945 at the end of WWII. He was called to serve again in November of 1950. He served in Korea during the Korean War. During the war Gene was a driver for Major Ushaw. He also met and drove for numerous celebrities that visited through the U.S.O. He was honorably discharged on August 30, 1952.
Following his time in the service, Gene returned to Savonburg where he farmed. Gene loved the farm and his animals; he was still farming until his passing. He also worked at the Parsons Stockyards for 25 years and at Chanute Manufacturing for 20 years. He was a charter member of Elsmore Ruritan Club as well as a past Zone Governor and District Governor of the Middle America District. Gene was also a member of the Savonburg Masonic Lodge, Virginia 315, the Mirza Shrine Temple, Pittsburg, and the Moran American Legion Post #385.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and three sisters, Bascome, Jane, Roy, May, George Jr., Donald, Virginia.
Gene is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Joan of the home; his sons, Glen Wolfe and wife, Rhonda of Savonburg, and Mike Wolfe of Pittsburg, Kansas; one grandson, Brad Griffith; four great-grandchildren, Gage and Bailey Griffith, Eli and Bradley Griffith; one sister, Viola Bradshaw of Sunland, California.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Moran. Burial with military honors will follow in the Elsmore Cemetery, Elsmore, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday evening at the funeral home.
