JoAnne and family, Dick tried to live forever, but God needed a good farmer so he called him home. Dick was a well liked man in the community and will be missed by many.

As a child, I saw my uncle as a big man in so many ways. I remember him taking me for walks out in the pasture and for every giant step he took, I had to take 10 to keep up with him.
I did not know at the time what I was looking at but I knew I wanted to be like him. I wanted to stand tall and move with the confidence and conviction that he had.
Uncle Dick always teased me. It was a playful teasing with no harm intended. What I learned from that teasing was to lighten up and not take everything so seriously and laugh at myself. I always strived to be clever in an attempt to one up my Uncle Dick. As an example: One day, my cousin Charlie and I decided we were going to play a trick on Uncle Dick. We lined up a few hundred firecrackers along the drive into the house my Grandma Wittry and Dick lived in. I was the lookout up on the road and when I saw Dicks truck, I yelled at my cousin to light the first firecracker so that when Dick entered the driveway the firecrackers would explode. Well, he drove faster than the sequence of explosions. With a grin on his face and a good chuckle, he was impressed we had put so much energy and time into our failed trick.
As many little girls dreamt about who they might marry when they grew up, I knew I wanted to marry someone like my Uncle Dick. A fun man. A strong man. A caring man. A loyal man. A man of strength, intelligence and heart. I did marry a man with my Uncle Dicks qualities and my life is in a very good place.
Whenever I think of my Uncle Dick, I have a smile on my face and a grateful heart because the man I had to take 10 steps to his one influenced me to stand tall, walk with confidence and conviction, be fun and enjoy life.

JoAnn and family, Ruth and family, To all of his sisters:
Dick will be missed by all of his family, neighbors and friends. He was a nice man that loved being a farmer. He never wanted to move off his family farm and he got his wish.
He was always so sharp. He could remember things from years past. We spent many hours over the last several years learning all people that had came and went over the generations. He also could tell about all the changes in farming that he had seen come and go.
He always took such pride in his belongings kept the equipment inside, clean and ready for the next season. His crops were always perfect rows and trimmed around them.
He was so fortune that he found JoAnn. He had been a bachelor long enough. They became a perfect combination. She completed what Dick was missing on the farm.
The neighborhood, the town, nothing will be quite the same without Dick to visit with and to wave to.
Rest in peace Dick. God must have needed a lot of good farmers this year.
