Obituary of Emmett Earl "Pat" Moyer
Emmett Earl "Pat" Moyer, age 95, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016, at Richmond Healthcare Center in Richmond, Kansas.
Emmett was born July 2, 1921, near Junction City, Kansas. He and his twin brother, Edward were the fourth and fifth of five children born to Adam Sylvester and Emma Louise (Hoff) Moyer. Emmett attended several small country schools through the 8th grade, stopping school to help on the farm.
He lived his life in southeast Kansas, living and working on one farm or another, helping his parents farm while his sister and brothers married and moved away or went to war.
His life progressed from party line telephones on the wall, water from a well, horse drawn machinery in the fields and wagons on the roads, to cell phones in the pockets, water from faucets, tractors and self-propelled combines in the field and trucks and cars and motorcycles on the road.
Emmett retired in 1996, and moved to Pomona after selling his farm. He later moved to Garnett to be near his nieces, nephews and their families.
He enjoyed attending many local grange meetings and dances with their pot luck suppers, enjoying them all. Later, after retiring to the "big city" of Garnett, he began attending senior groups and meetings to play cards (occasionally won the "grand prize"), eat pot luck suppers, and enjoying the company of his peers.
Emmett was preceded in death by his parents, Adam Sylvester and Emma Louise Hoff Moyer; his twin, Edward James in 1989 and wife Kathryn Mae Burns in 1994, brothers, Kenneth Irving Moyer and wife Doris and Conrad Edwin Moyer in 1995 and wife Pauline Genevieve Burns in 2015 and sister Clara Matilda and husband Daniel Axtell; also nieces Fern Christine Moyer, Rachael Moyer, nephews Joseph Larry Moyer, Tony Lynn Moyer, Norman Rae Moyer, David Moyer and many cousins.
Emmett never married or had any children, but is survived by four nieces, Kitty Mace and Chuck of Garnett, Martha Ann Moyer of Welda; Roberta Bartholomew and George of Cleveland, Tennessee; Esther Chamber of Denver, Colorado; four nephews, Donald Moyer and James Moyer of Garnett, Robert Moyer of Louisburg, Kansas, Stephen Moyer of Grand Junction, Colorado; and many great nieces and nephews, and a few great-greats.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. Condolences may be left at www.feuerbornfuneral.com.
