Obituary of Donald E. Murray

Donald Edward "Don" Murray, 83, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Allen County Regional Hospital. Don was born November 10, 1932, in Piqua, Kansas, the son of Alvin L. and Elizabeth Theresa (Bux) Murray. He attended St. Martin's Grade School in Piqua and graduated from Iola High School in 1950. On December 29, 1955, Don married Lois A. Elarton at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola. They have always made their home in Iola. Don worked for Anderson Plumbing in Iola until starting his own business over 45 years ago. He was currently President of D & R Plumbing & Electric, Inc. in Iola. His memberships include St. John's Catholic Church where he loved singing in the choir, and the Knights of Columbus in Iola. Don enjoyed all sports that he participated in, especially bowling and baseball. Plus he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Lois; 4 children, David Murray & wife, Dawn of Iola, Kim Burns of Iola, Gretchen Murray of Overland Park, KS and Tracy Newton & husband, J.D. of Greenville, SC; 1 sister, Fern Murray of Springfield, MO; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Kathleen Wade, 2 sisters that died at birth, 3 brothers, Lawrence Everett, William and Raymond Murray, 2 sons-in-law, Terry Burns and Gary Barton and a granddaughter, Desiree Jackson. Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, from 2:00-4:00 p.m., at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola. The parish rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, followed by the celebration of the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m., both at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola.
