Obituary of Bethena L. Baker
Bethena Baker, age 84, of Garnett, Kansas, died on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett, Kansas.
Beth was born in Moran, Kansas on October 25, 1925, the daughter of Samuel Ernest and Elizabeth (Boggs) Fowler. She graduated from Moran High School and attended college at Allen County and Neosho County Community Colleges.
Beth married L.D."Bill" Baker in August of 1944 at Iola, Kansas. They moved to Wichita, Kansas and she worked as an office manager for an oil company, she was also a Girl Scout leader in Wichita for over 15 years. They then moved to Garnett in 1968, and she worked part time at a fabric shop in Garnett for the Eichman's.
Beth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Garnett, and a member of the Eastern Star since the age of 16. Beth also was a member of the quilt guild in Garnett. She loved to cook and bake, play pitch and bridge, was very talented with paintings, and loved any kinds of arts and crafts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Elizabeth Fowler; her husband, Lloyd Dale "Bill" Baker in 1989; four brothers, Ted, Bill, Francis, and Homer; three sisters, Gladys, Pearl, and Dutch.
Beth is survived by her son, John S. Baker and wife Sharon of Olathe, Kansas; her daughter, Cindy Adams of Yates Center, Kansas; three grandchildren, Cheri Young and husband Kris of Cheney, Kansas; Chris Baker and wife Jill of Olathe, Kansas; Kelci Botts and husband Jason of Bronson, Kansas; four great grandchildren; Madison Baker, Jackson Baker, Nash Young, and Stratton Young.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Garnett. Burial will follow in the Moran Cemetery, Moran, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Monday evening, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. Memorial Contributions may be made to Bill and Beth Baker Memorial Music Scholarship Fund.
