Obituary of Maxine L Frear

Maxine Frear, age 98, of Centerville, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016 in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born December 2, 1917 in Selma, Kansas, the daughter of John and Isabel (Thompson) Huggins. Maxine graduated from Kincaid High School in 1935. Maxine married Wilbur J. Frear on March 28, 1936 in Ottawa, Kansas. This union was blessed with two sons. She lived all her life in Centerville where she and Wilbur could be found six days a week in their store, Frear Feed and Produce. They operated the business for 57 years, retiring in 1985 after selling the business. Maxine was a life-long member of the Centerville Community Church. Maxine loved to cook and was known for her peach and cherry cobblers, home-made noodles and oyster dressing. Her pies were always a big hit at her church and the community betterment monthly dinners. Maxine's family was especially important to her and she also loved to socialize with her neighbors and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wilbur Frear; sister, Dorothy Gregg; and brother, John Valentine Huggins Jr. Maxine is survived by sons, Carl Frear and wife Alice of Princeton, Kansas; Stan Frear and wife Mary of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, Mike and Tammy Frear of Greenwood, Missouri; Sherry Frear Vargas of Blue Springs, Missouri; Joe Frear of Lenexa, Kansas; John Frear of Seattle, Washington; Lora and Kevin Smith of Overland Park, Kansas; seven great grandchildren, Michael Lee, Cassie, Kynzie, Jamie, Denea, Isabella, and Franklin; and one great great grandchild, Mason. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Centerville Church, Centerville, Kansas, with burial following at the Centerville Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
