Obituary of Robert Hampton
Robert L. Hampton, 78, of Humboldt, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Diversicare of Chanute.
Robert was born September 3, 1937, in Ft. Scott, Kansas, the son of Jesse Leland (Lee) and Vera (King) Hampton. He graduated from Iola High School in 1955 and received an Associates of Arts degree from Allen County Community College. He received a B.A. degree from Emporia State University in 1959 and a M.A. in Librarianship from the University of Denver in 1960.
His career reflects a life long love of books and reading. He worked in the Library Services Department at Emporia State University from 1960 to 1974, first as a cataloger, then head of library acquisitions, and finally as the Director of Library Services (1966 to 1974). He also taught courses in the Graduate Library School at Emporia State.
Robert returned to Allen County Community College as Library Director in 1974 where he continued to work until his retirement in 1998.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by John and Cindy Scovill, Michelle and Sherryl.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial ceremony is scheduled at 10:00 a.m., Saturday,April 2, 2016, at Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, who is in charge of arrangements. Inurnment will take place at Goodrich Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Allen County Animal Rescue Facility (ACARF) and may be left with the funeral home.
