Arthur Lee West, 90, of rural Moran, Kansas, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola, Kansas. Arthur was born January 31, 1920, west of Iola, Kansas the son of Charles and Fransina (Morning) West. He grew up at Iola and served in the United States Army during WWII. On September 22, 1942, Arthur married Ruby I. Koon at Fort Ord, California where he was stationed with the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge from the service, they made their home in Iola where he worked at LeHigh Portland Cement Company and at Abts Auto Parts. They moved to a farm southwest of Moran in 1945 where he farmed and had a dairy. From 1956 to 1962, they made their home in Denver where he worked for ICX Trucking. They returned to the farm in 1962. Arthur was a member of the Paint Creek Church of the Brethren at rural Uniontown and the American Legion Post #385 at Moran. SURVIVORS: His wife of 68 years: Ruby I. West of the home 2 Sons: Dick West & wife, Dixie of Elsmore, KS and Ralph West & wife, Virga of Friend, KS 4 Grandchildren: Jena Parker & husband, Scott of Shawnee, KS, Aaron West of Manhattan, KS, Sarah West of Merriam, KS and Amber West of Friend, KS 1 Great Granddaughter: Nevaeh He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Tommy, Charles Elzie "Rosie", Ray and Glen and by 2 sisters, Ruby and Mary. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Pastor Chub Bolling will officiate.
