Obituary of Herbert Wilson

Herbert L. "Herb" Wilson, 78, of Iola, died March 31, 2015. Herb was born west of the Neosho River to Nathan G. Wilson, and Nellie R. Clites Wilson, on July 23, 1936. He graduated from Iola High School in 1954. He attended Salem Methodist Church. Herb worked as a police officer, salesman and was a member of the National Guard before finding his true calling as a farmer. He loved taking his daily tour of the farm, and watching the crops grow. One of his hobbies was music, and he sang and played guitar at dances for many years. He was a flintknapper and demonstrated his talents to various scout groups. He was very proud of his five Eagle Scouts; one son, and four grandsons. He loved the outdoors, hunting, and taking his sons fishing on a number of trips to Canada and Grand Lake. He particularly enjoyed his three trips to Alaska. Herb is survived by his wife of 58 years, Aileen. Herb and Aileen Mynatt were married at Golden Valley Church, rural Moran on September 2, 1956. They are the parents of three sons, Clifford and wife Pam of Overland Park; Mike and wife Julie of Hutchinson and Douglas and wife Rhonda of Iola. Survivors include two sisters; Jackie Easley of Petrolia and Vicki Larkin of Bronson. Six grandchildren; Kyle, Drew and Grant Wilson; Evan Wilson; and Marita Martin and Jennifer Wilson. Five great grandchildren; Noah and Madison Wilson; Izaya and Khloe Martin; and Cayden Miller. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Barbara Rusconi. VISITATION & SERVICE: Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola, where visitation will be an hour prior to the service.
