Obituary of Sharon Weide

Sharon Kay Weide, 66, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Allen County Regional Hospital. Sharon was the youngest of seven children born to Shirden and Cassie (Shephard) Damron. She was born September 15, 1947 in Toronto, KS. She attended schools in Toronto, Colorado and Iola. She earned her GED from Allen County Community College in 1986. She was married to Gary Howerton until his death in 1969. Sharon married Les Weide December 23, 1977 in Iola. They made their home in Gas. During her life she has worked at Iola Deluxe Launderers and Cleaners, as a seamstress at Miller Dress Factory, waitress at 54 Cafe, hauling silage at Blackjack Cattle Company and as a home health caregiver. She also volunteered at Countryside Estates and for many years at Iola Senior Center. During her later years she worked as a homemaker. She enjoyed decorating cakes, crafting, traveling and never missed her grandchildren's activities. She also crocheted afghans for all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Russell Howerton, two brothers Wayne Damron and Leon Damron, two sisters, Pauline Schwintz and Barbara Damron and numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by her husband Les of the home; three sons, Kevin Howerton and wife Ronna of Gas, Andy Weide and wife Lori of Gas, Chris Weide and wife Naomi of Fall River; a daughter Sarah Stansbury and husband Brian of Iola; sisters Betty McDonald of Emporia and Shirley Swift-White and husband Bill of Williamsburg, Colorado; sister in law Maxine Moyer and husband Russ of Sulphur Rock, Arkansas; 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. VISITATION: 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, March 21, 2014, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.
