Obituary of Mary Thummel
Mary Frances Thummel, 80, of Iola, Kansas, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas.
Mary Frances was born January 31, 1931, at Piqua, Kansas, the daughter of Bernard and Julia (Ulrich) Konen. She grew up at Piqua where she attended St. Martin's Catholic School through the 8th grade. She graduated from Iola High School.
Mary Frances was married to Charles Thummel. They had four children and later divorced.
Mary Frances has made her home at Piqua, Iola, and Chanute most of her life. She worked for Custom Electronics in Chanute, Pinecrest Nursing Home in Humboldt as a nurse's aide, and at Wal-Mart in Chanute until she retired 15 years ago.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Altar Society in Chanute. Mary Frances enjoyed crocheting, knitting, watching sports - especially KU basketball, and spending time with her grandchildren.

12 Grandchildren: Heath Scheibmeir & wife Aurie, Zeb Scheibmeir, Erica Phillips & husband Brian, Jess Bogle, Megan Gann & husband Matt, Rebekah Thummel, Serah Thummel, Tim Thummel, Tabrenah Thummel, Mikal Larsen Berthot and Aaron Nietfeld
10 Great Grandchildren: Eric Phillips, Daniel Scheibmeir, Corinne Scheibmeir, Kira Scheibmeir, Joseph Gann, Asia Larsen, Alec Berthot, Adrianne Morrison, Austin Nietfeld and Jade Nietfeld
She was preceded in death by her parents Ben & Julia Konen, grandson Joe Bogle and brother Robert (Butch) Konen.
VISITATION: 6:00-7:30 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2011, at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.
ROSARY & MASS: The parish rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2011, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Piqua, Kansas, followed by the mass at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Robert B. Wachter will be celebrant.
INURNMENT: St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery in Piqua, Kansas, at a later date.
