Obituary of Leo Thummel
Leo A. Thummel, 86, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013, at Windsor Place in Iola.
Leo was born August 20, 1927, at Tipton, Kansas, the son of Joe and Anna (Simeon) Thummel. The family moved to a farm 2 miles north and 1 mile west of Piqua when he was 14. He did construction work.
On June 29, 1950, Leo married Lena Schulte. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his military duty, they made their home in Iola. He worked 24 years for Nelson Quarries and then 17 years for Gates Rubber Company before retiring.
Leo enjoyed playing cards and gardening. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Iola, Life Member of the V.F.W. in Chanute and American Legion in Iola.

His wife of 63 years: Lena Thummel of the home
2 Sons: Rodger Thummel and spouse Jacque of Iola, and Jerry Thummel and spouse Sharon of Iola
2 Daughters: Ronda Barnow and spouse Doug of Chanute and Janet Wilson and spouse Robert of Iola
13 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild
He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 6 sisters, 1 grandson Joshua and 1 great grandson Mikeal.
VISITATION: 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at St. John's Parish Hall in Iola.
PARISH ROSARY: 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola.
FUNERAL MASS: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola.
BURIAL: Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas
