Obituary of Kathryn Tanner

Kathryn I. (Rose) Tanner, 82, of Gas, Kansas, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at the Kansas City Hospice House. Kathryn was born April 27, 1928, at Fort Scott, Kansas, the daughter of Andrew J. and Veneta M. (Anderson) Rose. She grew up at Fort Scott. On June 22, 1945, Kathryn married Lloyd M. Tanner and they moved to Iola on August 5, 1955. He preceded her in death in September of 1966. She worked for 20 years for the Kansas State Board of Agriculture retiring in 1990. She also worked at Hall's Food Mart, was hospitality hostess at Hardee's until they closed, Country Mart, Heritage Care Home in Humboldt, and Pump'N Pete's Convenience Store in Iola. Kathryn has bowled for over 43 years on the Ladies Friday Night and Daylighters Leagues. She also enjoyed playing bingo, playing the piano and being with her family. Her memberships include the Community of Christ Church where she served as pianist for several years, V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 6324 at LaHarpe and American Legion Auxiliary Post 0385 at Moran. SURVIVORS: 2 Sons: Rick Tanner & wife, Carla and Eddie Tanner & wife, Norma all of Topeka, Kansas 2 Daughters: Sharon Mazzoni of Wichita, Kansas, and Susan Cook & husband, Brad of Iola, Kansas 1 Daughter-In-Law: Rita Jo Tanner 1 Sister: Lois Henderson of Fort Scott, Kansas 14 Grandchildren, 3 Step-Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren, 14 Step-Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild Her Poodle: Buddy She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Larry L. Tanner, sister Jocelyn M. Rose and two brothers, Andrew J. Rose and Gerald T. Rose. VISITATION: 6:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 23, 2011, at the Community of Christ Church east of Iola. Gary Murphey will officiate.
