Obituary of Maurice Samson

Maurice Albert "Al" Samson, Jr., 68, of Colony, Kansas, died Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at his home. Al was born February 14, 1942, at St. Albans, Vermont the son of Maurice Albert and Lucille (Benoit) Samson, Sr. He grew up at St. Albans where he graduated from Holy Angels Catholic High School. He served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Kansas. On August 22, 1964, Al married Patricia Ann Leeman and they made their home in Vermont, Topeka and Scranton, Kansas. They had two sons before they were divorced. On February 1, 1991, Al married Rose M. Beckmon in Topeka, Kansas. They have made their home in Topeka, Iola and Colony. Al worked as a machinist in the Topeka area, for Frito-Lay and for the city of Iola before he retired. He was always working on some kind of vehicle and was a builder and repairer of all things. He loved going to auctions and spending time with his kids and grandkids. Al attended the Colony Christian Church. SURVIVORS: His wife: Rose M. Samson of the home 5 Children: Robert Samson & wife, Dawna of Topeka, KS, Gary Samson of Topeka, KS, James Burcham of Iola, KS, Tom Burcham of Topeka, KS, and Susan Burcham of Broken Arrow, OK His Mother-In-Law: Ethel Beckmon of Iola, KS 3 Brothers: Paul Samson and George Samson both of St. Albans, VT, and Arthur Samson of Largo, FL 3 Sisters: Noella Ashline and Katherine Ashline both of Burlington, VT and Betty Saveall of Swanton, VT 9 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents. VISITATION: 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 10, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola, Kansas FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Monday, Oct. 11, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. The Rev. Mark McCoy will officiate. BURIAL: Colony Cemetery MEMORIAL: St. Luke's Hospice Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
