Denise Ann Sherrill, 46, of Overland Park, Kansas, formerly of Iola, Kansas, died Saturday morning, April 11, 2009, in an apartment fire. Denise was born April 24, 1962, in Iola, to Sally Ann and Robert E. Sherrill. She graduated from Iola High School in 1980. She completed her degree at Pittsburg State University, receiving a bachelor of science in education in 1984. She completed her master of science degree at PSU in 1987. She was a Tri Sigma alumni. Denise enjoyed spending time with her family, playing tennis and helping others. She was enthusiastic about cooking, baking and gardening. She taught third grade for 10 years and served as an elementary school counselor for numerous years. SURVIVORS: Her Father: Robert E. Sherrill of Iola, KS Her Nieces & Nephews: James Shearer & wife, Kristi, & their daughter, Ashley of Louisville, KY; Jason Shearer & wife, Terry, & their son, Jimmy of Blue Springs, MO; Dr. Joy Furman & husband, Dr. Matt Furman, & their children, Blake & Preston of Pueblo West, CO; Galen Morrison II of Blue Springs, MO; John Shearer & his children, Jynna, Jessica and Jonathan of Louisville, KY; Sherrill Ann Scott & husband, Brandon of Wichita, KS; and Stacey & husband, Dr. Matt Howell, & their daughter, Ellie of Kansas City, MO Many aunts, uncles & cousins She was preceded in death by her mother. Cremation has taken place. MEMORIAL GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 1:00 p.m., Sat., Apr. 18, 2009, at Highland Cemetery in Iola, KS.
