Obituary of Robert Shields
Robert Patrick Shields, 90, of Iola, Kansas, died Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola, Kansas.
Bob was born March 28, 1924, in Hollywood, California. His parents were Frank J. and Lucille (Preble) Shields. He moved with his family to St. Joseph, Missouri, where he graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1942. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and then in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves during the Korean War.
On September 16, 1946, he married Patricia L. Adams. They lived in St. Joseph, Kansas City, Missouri, and Overland Park, Kansas, before retiring and moving to Iola in 1988. Bob worked in the engineering department for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 38 years. He enjoyed time spent operating his ham radio.
He was a former member of the Ward Parkway and Leawood Country Clubs, a lifetime member of the American Legion, and a member of St. John's Catholic Church.

5 sons: Michael and wife Denise of Houston, Texas, Tim and wife Dawn of Cameron, Missouri, John of Iola, Richard and wife Kim of Clinton, Missouri, and Robert and wife Roxy of Paola
2 daughters: Mary Weatherman and husband Neal of Eudora, and Barbara Andrews and husband Tim of Conway, Arkansas
27 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Walter.
VISITATION: from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2015, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.
FUNERAL MASS: 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2015, at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola.
MEMORIALS: Allen County Animal Rescue Facility (ACARF) or Allen County Hospice and they can be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels who is in charge of arrangements.
