Obituary of George Riebel

George Louis Riebel, 86, of rural Iola, Kansas, died Friday, February 21, 2014 at his home. George was born October 21, 1927, at Westphalia, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Flora (Decker) Riebel. He grew up in Westphalia and served in the U.S. Army. On July 15, 1947, George married Theresa Rosenia Weber at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Humboldt in a double ceremony with George's brother Raymond and Theresa's sister Pauline. They made their home south of Iola where they celebrated 61 years of marriage before Theresa preceded him in death July 27, 2008. George worked at Monarch Cement Company then Humboldt Brick and Tile besides doing carpentry work. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Iola. SURVIVORS: His 9 Children: Roy Riebel & wife, Colleen, Ron Riebel & wife, Cheryl, David Riebel, Wayne Riebel & wife, Cindy, LaVon Foster & husband, DeWayne, Randal Riebel & wife, Carrie, Marlene Anderson & husband, Kenton, Marla Lawrence & husband, Doug, and Lisa Francis & husband, Bob 24 Grandchildren & 30 Great Grandchildren 5 Siblings: Berniece Trowbridge, Flora May, Anthony Riebel, Edward Riebel and Earl Riebel He was preceded in death by 7 siblings, Dorothy Yokum, Mary Batsen, Cecilia McCullough, Helen Fetters, Raymond Riebel, Leonard Riebel and Bernard Riebel. PARISH ROSARY: 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola. VISITATION: Following the rosary in St. John's Parish Hall FUNERAL MASS: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola.
