Obituary of Edwin Nord
Edwin J. "Ed" Nord, 90, of Iola, Kansas, died Friday, October 8, 2010 at his home.
Ed was born June 3, 1920 at Milan, Missouri the son of Joseph Martin and Neville Sperry (McNeiley) Nord. He grew up in Utah until age 11 when the family returned to Milan. He attended Oak Grove Rural School and graduated from Milan High School. He worked at First National Bank in Milan.
On June 8, 1941, Ed married Lois Dean Murphy at Lancaster, Missouri. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He served two years in the Pacific and was part of the Naval Seabee's. Following his honorable discharge from the service, he attended the University of Missouri at Columbia, receiving his degree in 1949.
They moved to Humboldt where Ed worked for Monarch Cement Company for 37 years. Lois died February 22, 1991.
On June 25, 1994, Ed married Donna R. (Ostrander) Lower at the Humboldt United Methodist Church. They made their home in Iola.
Ed traveled extensively spending winters in Texas and Hawaii for 14 years. He read his bible daily, liked to sketch and was a KU and Kansas City Chiefs fan.
He was a member of the Humboldt United Methodist Church where he served as a Lay Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendant, Church Trustee for over 30 years, started the United Methodist Men, sang in the choir and brought the message from time to time. He was also a member of the American Legion, the McDonald's Coffee Bunch, Naval Seabee's 3rd Battalion Reunion Group and former long-time member of the Humboldt Rotary Club.

2 Grandchildren: Lesley-Anne Kemper and Joshua Nathaniel Ballenberg
1 Great Granddaughter: Madison Kemper
9 Step-Grandchildren and 1 Step Great Granddaughter
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mac Dee Nord.
VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 10, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Monday, Oct. 11, at the Humboldt United Methodist Church. The Rev. Debby Dick will officiate.
BURIAL: Mt. Hope Cemetery in Humboldt, Kansas with military honors
MEMORIAL CHOICES: Humboldt United Methodist Church or Allen County Hospice
