Obituary of Charles Kress

Charles E. "Chuck" Kress, 88, of Piqua, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Coffey County Hospital in Burlington. Charles was born October 4, 1924, at home west of Piqua, the son of Albert John and Clara Josephine (King) Kress, Sr. On December 10, 1945, Chuck married Betty Anne Trowbridge at St. Martin's Rectory in Piqua. They made their home in Iola a few years before returning to the farm at Piqua. Betty preceded him in death on December 9, 2000. Besides farming, Chuck operated Kress Electric, working as an electrician, plumber and mechanic. He was a gardener who enjoyed sharing his produce and was also known as the local historian. He enjoyed caring for his dogs and cats and attending auctions. He was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Piqua and is now a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Iola. SURVIVORS: 5 Children: Charyl Link of Kansas City, KS, Diane Stines & husband, Bob of Edgerton, KS, Chuck Kress II and wife, Jan of Iola, John "Punk" Kress & wife, Alzina of Iola, and Lori Jay of Brazoria, TX 1 Daughter-In-Law: Sharon Kress of Hutchinson, KS 5 Siblings: Robert J. Kress of Silver Springs, MD, Thomas C. Kress of Yates Center, KS, Albert J. "John" Kress of Piqua, KS, Rose Ann Breckenridge of Westminster, CO and Dorothea Jean Nichols of Casper, WY 15 Grandchildren & 17 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Kirk "Pete" Kress, sister Mary Lou Taylor, step-grandson Robert Ashby and great grandson Nathaniel Patterson. PARISH ROSARY: 6:00 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2013, at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. VISITATION: Following the rosary MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Piqua, Kansas.
