Ruth Hoggatt, 95, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Friday, October 3, 2014, at Windsor Place in Iola. Ruth was born April 19, 1919, at Blue Mound, Kansas, the daughter of Hugh White and Jessie Mabel (Burnett) Murrow. She grew up on the family farm at Mildred. She graduated from Kincaid High School and Parsons Business College. On October 24, 1941, Ruth married Edwin R. "Eddie" Hoggatt in Independence, Kansas. They made their home in California while Eddie was stationed there during WWII. She moved to Iola in 1944 before Eddie was honorably discharged from the service and he joined her here. She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for Hoyt Oil for many years and then for United Electric Cooperative until she retired at age 80. Eddie preceded her in death January 11, 2001. Ruth was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola. She enjoyed cooking and shopping. SURVIVORS: 1 Daughter: Pam Hoggatt of Topeka, KS 1 Sister: Mary Ellen Stanley & husband, Carl of Iola, KS 4 Grandchildren: Jeff Hoggatt & wife, Lisa of Wichita, KS, Jana Burke of Manhattan, KS, Gina Cremeen & husband, Rob of Overbrook, KS and Tracy Fiegener & husband, Terry of Overbrook, KS 7 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Jerry Hoggatt & his wife, Fran, and by brothers J.D. "Jim" Murrow and Estel "Doc" Murrow. FUNERAL SERVICE: 1:00 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola, where the family will receive friends prior to the service.
