Obituary of Jerry Hurlock

Jerry Leon Hurlock, 77, of Iola, Kansas, died Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola. Jerry was born February 9, 1932, in Iola, Kansas, the son of Harry and Alice (Blizzard) Hurlock. He grew up in Allen County and graduated from Moran High School where he played trumpet in the marching band and was an outstanding football player. He then served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Jerry returned to the Iola area in 1990 and worked as a lineman for the Rural Electric Association until he retired. Jerry married Beverly B. (Forman) Tarter on April 9, 1998. They made their home in Iola until the flood relocated them to Gas. He was a lifetime member of the Iola American Legion and an avid golfer,fisherman and softball player. He had a happy-go-lucky demeanor, loved life and people enjoyed being around him. SURVIVORS: Wife: Beverly Hurlock of the home 5 Sons: Ted Hurlock of Denver, CO, Danny Hurlock of Carlsbad, CA, Sam Hurlock of Newton, KS, Kenny Hurlock and Phillip Hurlock both of Las Vegas, NV 1 Daughter: Mitzi (Hurlock) Solis of Santa Clara, CA 1 Step-Daughter: Stacie Sigler of Humboldt, KS Mother Of His Children: Colleen (Lincicome) Moore of Victorville, CA 2 Sisters: Beth Wiederstein-Thomas of Colony, KS and Virginia Cook of Tulsa, OK 16 Grandchildren 11 Great Grandchildren 2 Step-Granchildren He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 5 sisters. FUNERAL SERVICE: 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. The Rev. Bill LaPorte will officiate. MEMORIAL: Alzheimer's Research Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
