Obituary of Donald Helman

Donald C. "The Judge" Helman, 76, of Iola, Kansas died Saturday July 12, 2014 at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas. He was born January 13, 1938 in Piqua, Kansas the son of Harmon G. and Zelma V. ( Anderson ) Helman,Sr. After serving in the United States Marine Corp he married Judy Butler on January 13, 1962. They made their home in Iola. He worked for the alfalfa mill and then at Haldex before retiring. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors: Wife Judy One son; Michael Helman of Iola Two daughters; Lori Bland and husband Mark of Arkansas City, Kansas, and Lisa Sigg and husband Rodney of Iola Two brothers; David Helman and wife Barbara of Crestline, Kansas, and Ronald Helman and wife Rhonda of Iola Three sisters; Dorothy Malloy of Independence, Missouri, Helen Drennen of Conway, Arkansas, and Ruth Dalton and husband Ted of Baxter Springs, Kansas 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant brothers, Robert and Harold, a brother, Harmon Helman, Jr., two half-brothers, Alan Nutz and John Sprague, and a half-sister, Mary Taylor Family and friends will gather at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 16th at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel to leave for graveside services to be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Geneva Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association and can be left at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel who is in charge of arrangements.
