Obituary of Glenn Heffernon
Glenn Lee Heffernon, 87, of Piqua, Kansas, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at Pinecrest Nursing Home in Humboldt, Kansas.
Glenn was born July 14, 1922, at Neosho Falls, Kansas, the son of James A. and Anna (Cooper) Heffernon. He was the youngest of five children. The family moved to Iola when he was a child and he attended Iola High School. He worked at Boeing in Wichita before serving in the United States Army during World War II.
Following his honorable discharge from the service, he went to work for AT&T. He followed his job as a lineman and repairman to Garden City, Iola, and Dodge City. He retired in 1975 after 30 years of service to AT&T. He moved to Iola in 1977 and then to Piqua a short time later.
He was a member of the American Legion in Iola.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Ira S. Heffernon, James E. Heffernon and Warren Heffernon and by a sister, Lena Williams.
VISITATION & GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Family and friends will gather at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola, for a short time of visitation at 9:30 a.m., on Thursday, December 24, 2009, before leaving for Highland Cemetery for graveside services at 10:00 a.m. The Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate.
Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, is in charge of arrangements.
