Obituary of Frank Hawkinson
Frank Paul Hawkinson, 86, son of Charlie and Elsbeth Hawkinson, resident of rural Savonburg, Kansas, died March 31, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, KS. He was born September 6, 1927.
In 1931, when he was 3 years old, he went with his mother and 2 sisters, Pauline and Francis to Sweden to see relatives.
He completed eight years at Odense School, six miles west of Savonburg and graduated from Savonburg High School in 1945.
Frank married Effie Christine Haddan November 25, 1951 at the Stark Friends parsonage, Stark, KS, with the Rev. Luther Dillon officiating.
He was a farmer/stockman, also a mechanic, working on his own equipment. He cleared trees and built ponds with his D7 Caterpillar. He collected antique Case tractors, had an extensive spark plug collection, and loved going to auctions and antique tractor shows.
He was a member of the Odense Community Club.
Survivors include his wife, Christine of the home, 3 sons, David and his wife, Rhonda, rural Savonburg, Charles and his wife, Gloria, rural Erie, and Gary and his wife, Rhonda, rural Savonburg, and a daughter, Sheryl and her husband Roger Ludlum, rural Waverly. Eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Elsbeth, a brother, Fredolph, and 3 sisters, Marie Crooks, Pauline Butts, and Frances Jordan.
VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2014, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Evangelical Covenant Church, three miles west of Savonburg.
BURIAL: Odense Cemetery
