Obituary of Wilma Haen
Wilma J. Haen, 84, of Iola, Kansas, died Sunday, December 4, 2011, at the home of her daughter, Diane Oswalt, in Iola, Kansas.
Wilma was born November 5, 1927 to Kenneth and Lena (Hasstedt) Ellis on a farm southeast of Neosho Falls, Kansas. She attended Clay Bank Rural School, graduated from Neosho Falls High School, and attended KSJC Teachers College in Pittsburg, Kansas. She taught school at Spawe, No. 6 in Woodson County.
In June, 1948, she married Donald J. Haen at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Piqua, Kansas. They had four children, Keith, Donna, Diane and Bill. They were farmers and lived in Woodson County.
She belonged to Neosho Valley Homemakers Unit and was a project leader in Neosho Valley Boosters 4-H Club while their children were members.
Donald passed away in September, 1988. Wilma moved to Iola in June, 1989. She belonged to the Allen County Hospital Auxiliary, Allen County Historical Society, and Iola American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed her family, holidays were always busy and happy times. She liked to walk, collect dolls and figurines. She liked to bowl and loved the outdoors.
Survivors include her children: Keith Haen, Kansas City; Donna Preisner and her husband Ivan, St. John; Diane Oswalt, Iola; Bill Haen and his wife, Debbie, Parsons; 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; her bother Darrell Ellis and wife, Gynith, a sister-in-law Mary Mildred Haen and several nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: 7:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate.
BURIAL: St. Martin's Cemetery at Piqua, Kansas
