Obituary of Carl Hafer

Carl Hafer, 70, of Iola, Kansas passed from this life to eternal life with Jesus on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. Carl was born December 11, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Carl Frederick and Elizabeth (Baket) Hafer, Sr. He grew up in Chicago. On January 4, 1964, Carl married Barbara Baermann in Chicago where they made their home until moving to Iola in 1975. Carl worked as an industrial engineer for Berg Manufacturing for 38 years. Carl loved his family, friends and church. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he has served in various leadership roles and was currently vice chairman of the board. He was a member of the bell choir since it began almost 25 years ago. He also served as a volunteer for the Bowlus. Carl also loved woodworking and redecorating his home. One of his major goals was helping his son Kevin finish his house. SURVIVORS: His wife of almost 50 years: Barbara Hafer of the home 3 Children: Kim Strickler & Jason Johnson of Olathe, Kevin Hafer & Sharon Fritzsche of Baldwin City, and Kristen & Josh Jenkins of Parker, CO 1 Brother: Kenneth Hafer & wife Sue and family of Stevensville, Michigan 6 Grandchildren: Sabrina Callahan (Eric), Skylar Strickler, Lucas Hafer and Jack, Emma & Ryan Jenkins 3 Step-Granddaughters: Rachael, Rebecca & Sarah Fritzsche He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Hafer. VISITATION: 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola.
