Obituary of Clem Griffith

Clem Withers Griffith, 94, of Iola, Kansas, died Friday, June 15, 2012, at the Allen County Hospital. Clem was born July 8, 1917, in Lodgepole, Nebraska, the son of Louie Eugene and Leola Elsie (Withers) Griffith. He graduated from Peetz, Colorado high school and received his degree in electrical engineering from Colorado State University. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. On October 23, 1944, Clem married Alvina Frank and they made their home in Wichita. They later moved to Iola where he worked as an engineer for John E. Brink & Associates which became Shetlar Griffith Shetlar before retiring at the age of 70. Mrs. Griffith preceded him in death December 25, 2006. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Iola where he taught Sunday School and served on the Board of Deacons. He also belonged to the S.E. Chapter of Kansas Society of Professional Engineers and Iola Rotary Club. SURVIVORS: 2 Daughters: Lucille Bevard & husband, Tom of Iola, KS and Louise Kelley of Loveland, CO 4 Grandchildren: Rick & Randy Bevard and Joshua & Micah Kelley 3 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Orvin, Prentice and Jack Griffith. FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church in Iola, where the family will receive friends prior to the service.
