Obituary of Elmer Guatney

Elmer W. Guatney, 84, of Neosho Falls, Kansas, died Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Yates Center Health & Rehab in Yates Center, Kansas. He was born December 5, 1930, in Fredonia, Kansas, the son of Paul and Pearl ( Steele ) Guatney. The family moved to Neosho Falls and he graduated from Neosho Falls High School. After serving with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Elmer returned to Neosho Falls and operated Guatney Grain and later an automotive shop. On October 21, 1956, he married Margaret J. Snyder and they made their home in the Neosho Falls area. Elmer worked as a farmer and stockman along with managing Woodson County Rural Water District No. 1. Margaret preceded him in death January 3, 2002. Elmer served on the SEK Regional Planning Commission for years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star in LeRoy, Mirza Shrine, and the American Legion. SURVIVORS: 1 daughter: Sherrie Fitzgerald and husband Mike of Kechi 1 sister; Patricia Olson and husband Ron of Erie 2 grandchildren; Kris Fitzgerald and Kristi Kirkman 2 great grandchildren: Nathan and Amelia DeArmond Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Jerrie Kirkman, two brothers, Jerry and Harold Guatney, a sister, Carol Guatney, and a great granddaughter, Isabella DeArmond Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola with burial in the Cedarvale Cemetery in Neosho Falls.
