Obituary of Phyllis Gumfory

Phyllis Doreen Gumfory, 64, of Iola, Kansas, died Friday, August 21, 2009, at the Allen County Hospital in Iola. Phyllis was born December 28, 1944, at Erie, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence Edward and Vida Emil (Riley) Gambill. She grew up on farms in the Colony area. On September 5, 1961, Phyllis married Duane S. Gumfory at Iola, Kansas. They made their home in Iola. She retired in 2006 from Haldex in Iola after working there 30 years. Her husband, Duane, preceded her in death on June 16, 2006. Phyllis was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Iola. She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family. She had been an avid bowler for many years. SURVIVORS: 2 Sons: David Gumfory of Iola, Kansas and Shawn Gumfory of LaHarpe, Kansas 1 Daughter: Charlotte Murry & her husband, Kevin of Gas, Kansas 6 Grandchildren: Nicole Gumfory, Josh, Alex and Jake Gumfory and Andy and Griffin Chester 3 Brothers: Dewey Gambill and David Gambill, both of Iola, Kansas and William Gambill & wife, Ilene of Coffeyville, Kansas A Brother-In-Law: Roy Morlan of Wichita, Kansas 5 Sisters: Darlene Sparks & husband, Bruce of Leavenworth, Kansas, Patricia Sproul of Gas, Kansas, Linda Johnson and Peggy Niemeyer & husband, Sam all of Iola, Kansas and Barbara Alumbaugh of Pratt, Kansas A host of nieces and nephews and in-laws She was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Gambill and by a sister, Agnes Morlan. FUNERAL SERVICE: 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. The Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate.
