Obituary of Kathleen Garner
Emma Kathleen "Ducky" Garner, 77, of Iola, Kansas, died Friday, August 5, 2011, at the Allen County Hospital in Iola.
Kathleen was born January 16, 1934, in Iola, Kansas, the daughter of William H.Newman and Faye (Coker) Newman Gardenhire. She grew up in Iola and attended the Iola schools.
On December 25, 1949, Kathleen married Vernon H. "Red" Garner, Jr. at Ft. Scott, Kansas, and they have always made their home in Iola. She worked for the Apt family, the Allen County Hospital, and retired after working 30 years at the SEK Iola Public Library.
She had belonged to the glass club in Iola. She currently was a member of the Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church in Iola where she served as Missionary President for 30 years. Kathleen also belonged to the Ebony 8 Red Hat Society in Iola.

3 Sister-In-Laws: Phyliss Bass of Leavenworth, KS, Janice Lane & husband, Harold of Everest, KS and Mary Jo Garner of Leavenworth, KS
1 Brother-In-Law: Richard "Dick" Garner of St. Louis, MO
A host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Vernon Garner, III in 2000 and Phillip "Lynn" Garner in 2007, and by a brother, Floyd S. Newman.
VISITATION: 7:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 11, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 12, 2011, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola. The Rev. Barbara J. Miniefee will officiate.
BURIAL: Highland Cemetery, Iola, KS
MEMORIAL: Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church
