Obituary of Beverley Ard

Beverley Ard, age 83, of Elsmore, Kansas passed away Monday, October 5, 2009 at her home. Beverley was born January 16, 1926 at Savonburg, Kansas, the daughter of Wendell Harold Theodore and Lenore (Collins) Johnson. She attended country schools near Savonburg and Elsmore before graduating from the Elsmore high School in 1943. On June 6, 1943 she was united in marriage to Mervin Ard at Iola, Kansas. This union was blessed with seven children. The family has lived on their farm near Elsmore since 1951. Beverley was a member of the Elsmore United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was also the Elsmore Reporter for the Iola Register and an active volunteer at the Moran Manor and the Savonburg Senior Center. Beverley also enjoyed quilting with the H&H Quilting club and the U.M.W. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mervin on June 26, 2006; a son, Larry Ard in 1997; a granddaughter, Lisa Ard in 1991; and a brother, Harold Johnson in 2008. Beverley is survived by two sons, Richard Ard and his wife Shirley; and Robert Ard, all of Elsmore, Kansas; four daughters, Betty Jo Baker and her husband Roger of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Ruth Endicott and her husband Oscar of Ft. Scott, Kansas; Linda Larson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Brenda Mills and her husband David of Elsmore, Kansas; sister, Barbara Worthington of St. Paul. Kansas; brother, Leon Johnson and wife, Flo Ann, of Savonburg, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Earlene Johnson of Savonburg, Kansas and Joyce Mapp of Elsmore, Kansas; twenty-three grandchildren and thirty-six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, October 9, 2009 at the Elsmore United Methodist Church, Elsmore. Interment will follow in the Elsmore Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home in Moran. Memorial contributions may be given to the Elsmore United Methodist Church.
