As a former teacher in USD 257, I was always delighted when Larry was the bus driver for my class field trips and other events. He was such a positive role model for all of us. I remember one time when he was on a field trip with another class and he brought back some delicious fresh apple donuts for me! I know he did such random acts of kindness for many. Larry was always teaching love and kindness by the wonderful way he lived every day. What a gift!

We were so sorry to return to Iola and to learn of Larry's passing and memorial service. Larry was such an exceptional man. He drove both of our daughters to numerous Forensics tournaments and they loved him. He kept pictures of the students on his bus and always bought the team ice cream after a tournament. Larry frequently asked about our girls after graduation. It is rare to know a man as loving and caring as Larry and our lives are enriched because of him. Somewhere in Heaven, Larry is honking a school bus horn and waving with that big smile!

Larry touched the lives of so many people. I had the pleasure to travel with him on several school field trips. He also took special care taking all of my kids on their field trips as well. He was a very dear man. He will be greatly missed! Heaven is that much brighter because he is now at home.

I have worked with Larry for the past 6 years in the "school bus" office for USD 257. What a treasure he was. Larry made a friend wherever he went. He was Grandpa Larry to many, many students and to me personally, a special and wonderful friend. I will miss him deeply but I know he is enjoying heavenly peace. My deepest sympathy to his family and may all your memories bring you comfort now and in the days ahead. He will always be with you in your hearts and in mine as well.

I was sadden to hear of Larry's passing. I have the memories of him from all the band trips as an adult sponsor with my girls (seven years). Many would run to the bus when they heard he had pulled up at the Bowlus. The kids loved to ride on his bus on trips. I know he is in heaven rejoicing with his Lord.

To Mr. Garrett's family: I was very saddened to hear of your father and grandfather's death. I knew him through his involvement with the IHS speech and drama team. He knew that I had attended Crest and that I was a high school friend of Coach Dutton. Larry and I would always visit at tournaments and at The Colony Diner where he loved to take his wife for Sunday dinner. He was a great Christian man and I am very happy to have known him.
