Obituary of Dona Erbert
Donamae Catherine Erbert, 84, of Iola, Kansas, died Saturday, September 19, 2015, at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas.
Dona was born September 1, 1931, in a sod house north of Stratton, Colorado, the daughter of Frank and Catherine ( Colgan ) Huppert. She graduated from high school in Kirk, Colorado, and on August 2, 1949, married Harold Erbert in St. Charles Catholic Church in Stratton. They lived and farmed in the Burlington, Colorado, area until moving to Colorado Springs in 1956. In 1960 they moved to Iola, Kansas.
Dona was a partner with her husband in the oil business. They also owned and operated Mr. Pizza and Steaks in Iola for seven years and later the Holiday Inn Motel and Restaurant in Chanute for a number of years. He preceded her in death on January 24, 2001.
Dona adored her grandchildren and loved animals. She enjoyed her yard, flowers, and doing needlework. She also did volunteer work at Allen County Hospital.
SURVIVORS:
2 sons: Don Erbert and Jerry Erbert of Iola
4 daughters: Deanna King of Iola, Debbie O'Connor of Emporia, Luann Rogers of Iola, and Lori Christie of Overland Park
16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, Francis, a daughter, Julie Zahn, a grandson, Kent Erbert, and a great grandson, Andrew King.
VISITATION: 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September, 23, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola
FUNERAL SERVICES: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 24, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery
MEMORIALS: Allen County Animal Rescue Facility and they can be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel
