Obituary of Neva Jo Thrasher
Neva Jo Thrasher, age 76, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on September 26, 2009, at her home in Garnett, Kansas.
She was born August 31, 1933, at Comanche, Oklahoma, the daughter of Claude Elsie and Erie Madge (Bell) Morris. She graduated from Comanche High School in Comanche, Oklahoma, and was the Football Queen her senior year.
Neva married Jesse Gene Thrasher in 1951 in Comanche, OK, and this union was blessed with three children.
She traveled with her husband in the early years of marriage, while he worked for the Shell Oil Pipeline Company all over the United States until he retired. After her children were older, she graduated from the State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Missouri. She had helped with the Rescue Mission in Duncan, Oklahoma, cooking meals for the homeless and was also a member of the Comanche Garden Club. Neva and her husband then opened a chain of motels/restaurants throughout the United States. After the health of her parents declined, she moved back to Comanche to take care of them after she divorced. In 2001, she moved to Garnett to be with her daughter and grandchildren.
Neva was a member of the First Baptist Church and a proud supporter of the FFA and 4H and went to a lot of State Conventions throughout the years. She enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Oftentimes, she would go to her daughter's farm and watch them work cattle and live the country life. She enjoyed quilting, baking and canning. She was best known as Grandma Neva to everyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Madge Morris; a baby sister, Erie June Morris; one brother, Claude (Bill Jr.) Morris; and one sister, Sandra Lou Harris.
