Obituary of Carolyn Dreher
Carolyn Edith Duggan Dreher, 81, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, at the Allen County Hospital.
Carolyn was born October 1, 1931, at rural Moran, Kansas, the daughter of Elmer J. and Elva M. (Davis) Duggan. She graduated from Iola High School in 1949.
On November 5, 1950, Carolyn married Lyle W. Dreher and they made their home in Iola. Lyle preceded her in death December 26, 1993.
Carolyn worked at Allen County Bank, Rural Electric Co-Operative and the City of Iola from 1970 until she retired in 1996. She served as City Clerk of Iola from February 1991 until she retired and was a member of the City Clerks and Municipal Finance Officers Association.
As her children were growing up, she had leadership roles in PTA, Girl Scouts and 4-H. Her memberships include Wesley United Methodist Church, Wesley United Methodist Women and the Wesley Bell Choir, Allen County Hospital Auxiliary, Sorosis, Dirt Diggers Garden Club, Happy Hearts Extension Unit, and she served as a Docent at the Allen County Historical Museum. Carolyn enjoyed tole painting, sewing, quilting, crafts, traveling - especially on many bus trips, and tending her plants and flower gardens.
She is survived by her 3 children: Linda Wille & husband, Tom of Piqua, KS, Sharon Grisier & husband, George of Gas, KS and Jerry Dreher & wife, Cathy of Iola, KS; she shared the love of 7 grandchildren: Angie Slaven (Mike), John Wille (Beth), Sara Leivian (Chad), Chad Grisier (Jana), Robbie Grisier (Brandi), Caitlin Dreher and Carly Dreher; 13 great-grandchildren: Zachary Slaven, Dillon Slaven, Cody Wille, Camryn Wille, Kaden Leivian, Morgan Leivian, Jaylen Grisier, Emerson Grisier, Owen Grisier, Maryn Grisier, Brennen Nuessen, Bryer Grisier and Rowan Grisier.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Curtis E. Duggan.
FUNERAL SERVICE & VISITATION: The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 11, 2013, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola, where the family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
BURIAL: Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas
