Obituary of Ivor Davis
Ivor N. Davis, Jr. "Dave", of Humboldt, Kansas, passed away May 29, 2013 after a battle with ALS, he was 81.
Dave was born April 25, 1932 in Canton, Mississippi to I.N. Davis Sr. and Tennie Harvey.
He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and was a career man of 20 years. He had been stationed throughout the world, serving in 57 countries in all. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1972.
He earned his BA in business from Pitt State and was employed by Lockheed and worked in Iran and Greece.
He along with his wife Marilyn lived in the same house in Humboldt for 40 years and raised their 4 youngest children there.
Dave enjoyed taking care of his yard, collecting coins and all types of family gatherings, especially the one that included ice cream.
He was a member of the American Legion of Yates Center and community services include Municipal Judge for the City of Humboldt and being a Boy Scout Leader.
Dave is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn; his children, Tom Davis of Yates Center, Nan Kaufman and Nobby Davis of Humboldt, Cindy Carter of Ponder, TX, Shelli Zinser of Mount Vernon, MO, Jeff Davis of Chanute, Deb Jenks of Coos Bay, OR; and a sister, Judy Johnson of Raymond, Miss.
Dave had 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Chet, son Joe Davis of Lawrence, an infant great grandchild, 1 brother and 3 sisters.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2013, at the Humboldt United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at the Humboldt United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Yates Center Cemetery with full military honors.
Memorials are suggested to ALS Foundation or Humboldt Historic Preservation Alliance and may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
