Obituary of Ruth A. McCutchan

Ruth Alberta McCutchan, age 102, of Garnett, Kansas, died on Sunday, September 13, 2009, at the Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett, Kansas. Ruth was born on June 20, 1907, at Quinter, Kansas, the daughter of William Jacob Knaus and Mary Ann (Sprenkel) Knaus. She was the youngest of eight children. She attended schools at Quinter, Kansas, graduating from high school with the class of 1927. She graduated from Trinity Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing with the class of 1930 and became a registered nurse from the State of Missouri in 1931. Having completed three years of private duty nursing in Kansas City, Missouri, she spent eight years nursing at Fitzsimmons (Army) Hospital in Denver, Colorado. It was while working at this hospital that she met and married Captain Howard Elbert McCutchan on January 11, 1942. He passed away on April 5, 1991. To this union were born two children, Dr. Howard Henry McCutchan and Mary Ellen (McCutchan) Billingsly. Ruth was baptized in the Old German Baptist Brethren Church at Westphalia, Kansas, on June 19, 1994, one day before her 87th birthday. She remained faithful to her Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Benjamin Earl and an infant; five sisters, Esther Knaus, Evelyn Knaus, Edna Metzger, Rebecca Richardson, Anna Glick, and a foster brother, Eugene Knaus. Ruth is survived by her children, Howard and Mary Ellen; one granddaughter, Suzanne, and two grandsons, Michael Billingsly and Marcus McCutchan. She has one great granddaughter, Abigail Leanne and one great grandson, Dillon, and their mother, Jessica. Robert L. Knaus and Francis Knaus were Ruth's foster brother and wife. She has several other nieces, cousins and friends that will miss her greatly. She loved to travel with her husband and children. After her husband's departure, she continued her travels. She visited eight foreign countries and many of the states during her lifetime. She spent many winter months in Florida. African Violets were her favorite flowers; she loved birds, dogs, and visiting with relatives and friends in her home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 19, 2009, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Garnett, Kansas, with burial to follow at Bethel Cemetery, Westphalia, Kansas.
