Obituary of Opal Chastain
Opal Ilean Chastain, 78, of Savonburg, Kansas, died Saturday, December 19, 2009, at her son's home near Mapleton, Kansas.
Opal was born April 4, 1931, in Iola, Kansas, the daughter of Isaac N. and Effie Bell (Vanderslice) Conner. She grew up in the Iola, LaHarpe, Gas and Savonburg areas. When she was young, she worked at the honey factory in Iola and for area restaurants.
She married Weldon Hall and they had five children before his death. Opal later married Don Chastain and they had two children before he preceded her in death.

1 Brother: Dutch Conner of Lawrence, KS
2 Sisters: Dorothy Aldrich of Washington state and Ruby Humphrey of Arizona
23 Grandchildren and a number of great and great great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by a son, Charlie Hall, a daughter, Betty Hall, three brothers, Alfred, Edward & Earl Conner and a sister, Nora Conner.
Cremation has taken place.
Private family inurment will be in Highland Cemetery in Iola, Kansas, at a later date.
Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, is in charge of arrangements.
