Obituary of Steven Butler

Steven J. "Cap" Butler, 75, of Humboldt, Kansas, died Monday, January 12, 2015, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita. Cap was born March 16, 1939, in Eureka, Kansas, the son of Harold Oscar and Hazel Irene (Nelson) Butler. He grew up at Eureka and graduated from Tonovay High School in 1957. On April 22, 1972, Steven married Mary K. Woods at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eureka. He has worked at I.M.P. Boats in Iola, Churchill Pump Jacks in Chanute and the Allen County Sheriff Department where he was a jailer for three years and process server for fifteen years. After he retired he continued to work in maintenance at St. Patrick's School in Chanute, transported foster children for TFI "The Farm" and had been a crossing guard at Humboldt Elementary for a year and a half. He enjoyed helping on the St. Joseph Biblesta floats and at the Humboldt Historical Society and Museum. SURVIVORS: His wife of 42 years: Mary "Kathy" Butler of the home 2 Daughters: Melissa Scheffler & companion, Brad Kilpatrick of Overland Park, KS, and Sabrina Taylor & husband, Adam of Humboldt 6 Grandchildren: Kiah Scheffler, Zane Scheffler, Dillon, Derek, Dawson & Dakota Taylor 5 Siblings: Albert Butler of Neal, KS, Jack Butler of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, Richard Butler of Augusta, Wanda Frakes of Eureka and Dixie Holm of Hana, Hawaii He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Glen Butler, Wayne Butler & Dorothy Vinson. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.
