Obituary of Mary Boyd

Mary Elizabeth Boyd, 93, of Iola, Kansas, died Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Allen County Hospital. Mary was born June 17, 1916 on a farm near Neosho, Missouri the daughter of Adelbert and Gladys (Barlow) Weston. She graduated from Neosho High School and attended Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri and then the University of Arkansas. On September 20, 1941 Mary married Klein Boyd in Neosho. They lived in Neosho and Brooklyn, New York before moving to Iola in 1946. He preceded her in death on October 24, 1981. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Iola and supported its activities. Over the years she served as a Girl Scout leader, on the Public Library Board, the Bowlus Fine Arts Commission, and helped with meals on wheels. She enjoyed golf and was an avid bridge player. She also belonged to the Iola Music Club, Unity Club and the P.E.O. SURVIVORS: 1 Son: Richard Boyd & wife, Linda of Wichita Falls, Texas 2 Daughters: Becky Harlin & husband, Larry of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Paula Sutherland & husband, Richard of Iola, Kansas 6 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by brothers Joe and Alan Weston and granddaughter Erin Sutherland. VISITATION: 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010 at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church in Iola with the Rev. Jim Rausch officiating.
