Obituary of Fred Blevins

Fred E. Blevins of Yates Center, Kansas, passed away Monday, September 21, 2009 at the Allen County Hospital in Iola, Kansas, at the age of 84. He was born Fred Elmore Blevins on August 16, 1925, at Toronto, Kansas, the son of Robert F. and Frankie Frances (Yoakum) Blevins. Fred was raised at Toronto and attended all his school years there. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On August 22, 1950, he married Edna R. Rogers at Wichita, Kansas. His railroad career started as an engineer for the KATY and he later changed to the Missouri-Union Pacific as a section hand, with over 40 years before his retirement. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Yates Center, American Legion Post at Toronto and the Yates Center Chapter of the Old Time Pickers, Fiddlers and Singers. Fred was an avid gardner. SURVIVORS: 1 Son: Robert E. Blevins of Yates Center, KS 2 Daughters: Mary L. Blevins and Gayla R. Blevins both of Yates Center, KS 1 Granddaughter: Emily Blevins of Mountain Home, Arkansas 1 Brother: Gerald R. Blevins of Ft. Collins, CO Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Edna R. on Dec. 7, 1991, his parents, one son, Gary, and brothers Leonard E., Donald, Charles and Paul. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private inurnment at the Toronto Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Woodson County Ambulance Fund and may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangments.
