Obituary of Dean L. Hultz
Dean L. Hultz, age 94, of Moran, Kansas, formerly of Kincaid, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Allen County Regional Hospital, Iola, Kansas.
Dean was the second of four children born Arthur Leo Hultz and Ida Iva Lowman Hultz. He was born October 16, 1921at Bush City Kansas. He grew up on a farm ½ mile east of Bush City and attended grade school in Bush City. After completing the 8th grade, he began working with his father on the family farm.
At the age of 20, Dean was inducted into the U.S. Army on January 29, 1942. He was a veteran of WWII, serving as a Staff Sergeant with the 95th Infantry Division in Northern France and Central Europe. Dean was Honorably Discharged in 1945.
On November 14, 1942, Dean married Doris Jean Herrmann in Austin, Texas, while Dean was stationed at Camp Swift. This union was blessed with three daughters. When WWII ended, Dean and Doris returned to the Selma, Kansas area where Dean worked in the oil fields and returned to farming. They raised all types of row crops, cattle, hogs, and had a small dairy farm at one time. In 1966, they built a new house on their first quarter section of land. They celebrated their 25th, 40th, 50th, and 60th wedding anniversaries while living at this location. They were married for 61 years until her passing on December 26, 2003. They were not only husband and wife; they were workmates and BEST friends. Dean continued to live on the farm after Doris' passing. He moved from the farm in 2008.
He has always enjoyed woodworking and working in his farm shop, repairing and redesigning farm machinery. Dean never met a piece of machinery that he felt that he couldn't improve. He and Doris surprised their three daughters with Grandfather clocks that they made.
He served on the Selma school board and the Anderson County Farm Bureau Board of Directors. Dean and Doris received the Anderson County Soil Conservation Award and were honored to be Grand Marshals of the Kincaid Fair.
Dean was a lifetime member of the Kincaid VFW Post #7039 and the 95th Division Infantry group. He served as Post Commander from 1974 to 1977. He was a member of the Kincaid Selma United Methodist Church. Dean took up golf at the age of 63 and enjoyed many rounds of golf with Sam Harris. Dean and Doris enjoyed traveling in their RV, and taking bus trips. Dean was a man of few words who worked hard all of his life.
Dean is survived by three daughters, Bonnie McAdam, and husband, Tom of Moran, Kansas, Joyce Younkin, and husband Rob, of Wichita, Kansas, Linda McAdam, and husband Andy, Lone Elm, Kansas; four grandchildren, Susanna Thyer, Andrea Adams, Jeff McAdam, and Anissa Younkin; four step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Kincaid-Selma United Methodist Church, Kincaid, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Kincaid Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Moran.
