Obituary of Dorothy Catherine Miller

Dorothy Miller, age 89, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away at Anderson County Hospital, Garnett. She was born on March 2, 1922, in Greeley, Kansas, the daughter of George F. and Hilda (Roeckers) Hart. While her family lived in Greeley she attended St. John's Grade School and later attended and graduated from the Silverdale School when her family moved to Richmond. Dorothy was united in marriage to Romanus Louis Miller on April 14, 1942, in Richmond, Kansas. This union was blessed with four sons and four daughters. She worked as a dietician and cook at the Anderson County Hospital for 21 years, retiring in 1991. Dorothy was a member of Holy Angels Church and Altar Society; former President of the Anderson County ARC for 23 years; former Secretary of the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women for 8 years; and former Secretary of Mt. Carmel of Lay Carmelites. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, canning, playing dominoes and cards, scrapbooking, painting, making pies, traveling, and entertaining her family and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Henry, Arnold and Raymond Hart; her husband, Romanus Miller; son Roger Miller; son-in-law Doug Sibley; and grandson Randy Shellhorn. She is survived by her sons, James Miller and wife Charlene of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Keith Miller and wife Lorrie of Garnett, Kansas; Robert Miller and wife Michelle of Garnett, Kansas; four daughters, Diana Shellhorn and husband Ronald of Lakewood, Colorado; Linda Sibley of Omaha, Texas; Rosalee Bures and husband Rene of Richmond, Kansas; Christina Rockers and husband Bruce of Garnett, Kansas; one sister, Louise Miley of Arkansas City, Kansas; two brothers, Joe Hart and wife Sally of Pittsburg, Kansas; Louis Hart and wife Susie of Columbia, Missouri; twenty-three grandchildren; and twenty-nine great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2011, at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery in Scipio, Kansas. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Church, with visitation following. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Angels Building Fund or to St. Rose School.
