Obituary of Archie Hoel

Archie Eugene Hoel, age 84, of Colony, Kansas, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2011, at Richmond HealthCare, Richmond, Kansas. Gene was born on December 12, 1926, in Burden, Kansas, the son of Earl and Charlotte (Croft) Hoel. He graduated from Colony High School in 1944 and joined the Merchant Marines in December 1944 until January 1947. He married Barbara Joan Powell on June 9, 1948; this union was blessed with five children. Gene began his career working for Cities Service Gas Company in Welda, Kansas, and made numerous moves working for the company. He retired as Superintendent of Pampa, Texas, division in 1984. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, farming, and coin collecting. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Charlotte Hoel; his wife, Joan Hoel; and one brother, Leonard Hoel. Gene is survived by two sons, Gary Hoel of Salt Lake City, Utah and Greg Hoel of Dallas, Texas; three daughters, Linda Jeanette Hoel of Alexandria, Virginia; Barbara Schletzbaum and husband Robert of Atchison, Kansas; Marilyn Young and husband Doug of Syracuse, Kansas; and one granddaughter, Emily Young. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Colony, Kansas, burial to follow in the Colony Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service time for visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Care of Kansas.
