Obituary of Marjorie Frances Ahring

Marjorie Ahring, age 90, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. Marjorie Frances Bartlett was born on June 23, 1920, at Richmond, Kansas, the daughter of Benjamin Riley and Florence Grace (Taylor) Bartlett. She attended Richmond Grade School and High School. Marjorie became a member of the Richmond Methodist Church as a young girl. On June 23, 1938, Marjorie married Fred Wilson Ahring at the Methodist Parsonage in Iola, Kansas. They lived on a farm 3 miles north of Harris, Kansas. This union was blessed with five children. Marjorie spent most of her life in the Harris community. She was a member of the Harris United Methodist Church; the Harris Progressive Unit; and the Community Women Happy Hour Club. After the Harris Methodist Church closed, Marjorie attended the Christian Church in Garnett. She and her husband and some family members spent many years following the wheat harvest, harvesting wheat as they traveled through Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming in the summers. Many young 17 or 18 year old Garnett boys worked with the harvest crew and accompanied the Ahring's on the harvest. Marjorie enjoyed cooking and visiting with the boys very much. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Ahring, Sr. on March 18, 2006; two sons, Bob Ahring on November 8, 2004; Fred Ahring Jr. on January 17, 2006; and one granddaughter, Tracy Ahring on October 12, 1988; three brothers; and four sisters. She is survived by one son, Rick Ahring and Linda Hayman of Parker, Kansas; two daughters, Janice Beeman and husband Richard of Santee, California; and Bonnie Messenger of Ottawa, Kansas; two daughters-in-law, Judy Ahring of Garnett, Kansas; Pam Ahring of Kincaid, Kansas; sister-in-law Avis Ahring of Haysville, Kansas; nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2011, at the First Christian Church in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. Family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church.
