Obituary of Dorothy Helen O'Malley

Dorothy Helen O'Malley, age 81, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2010 in Wichita, Kansas. She was born January 18, 1929 in Springfield, Colorado, the daughter of Carl and Ida (Stoltz) Borth. She was raised on the family farm and moved to Kansas when she was very young. She graduated from Welda High School and went to work as a legal secretary in Garnett. In Garnett she met and married John Emmett O'Malley on January 28, 1948. This union produced three children: Michael Dean, Patricia Lynn and John Carl. While raising her family she held several jobs outside the home as shoe sales person, legal secretary and librarian. She and her husband retired to Naples, Florida where she remained after her husband's death in 1986. She moved to Wichita, KS in 1995 to be closer to family. After two fights with cancer her health continued to decline. She loved all her family especially her sister Elaine, nieces, nephew, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She tried to remember everyone's birthday and special occasions. She was She was known as Grandma Jello to her great-grandchildren as she always made jello as a special treat for them. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ida Borth; her husband, John Emmett O'Malley; brother, Freeman Borth; sister, Mary Borth. Dorothy is survived by two sons, Michael O'Malley and wife Karen of Wichita, Kansas; John Carl O'Malley of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughter, Patty Copeland and husband Bob of Topeka, Kansas; a sister, Ruby Elaine Weiss of Garnett, Kansas; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Holy Angels Cemetery, Garnett, Kansas. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Garnett Public Library.
